Using Primo, the Library catalog, to Find Books & Articles

About the Library's tool for searching print and online collections for books, articles and more.

The basics

There are a number of access points for Primo. From the Law Library’s main page and elsewhere on the website look for the search box. Running a search from the starting screen will search all available libraries and content.

Note, in some instances, this may generate a considerable number of results. The filters on the left column should help with narrowing those results..

Example of search with a large number of results

There are ways to filter through the results or reformulate the search to get a good manageable list. Don’t worry, it is as easy as it looks.

The different tabs/pages of this guide will explain some of the features of the “catalog” and some different search techniques. If you need more help, stop by the Reference office or contact its staff by calling 703-993-8076 or by email at lawref@gmu.edu .
