District of Columbia Legal Materials

Notes at the end of each D.C. Code section give a citation to the District of Columbia Register for the Act, as well as Bill, Act, and Law numbers.  The Official Code provides information about the Committee to which a bill was referred.  Some helpful resources for finding legislative history documents are below:

• District of Columbia Code. (from the D.C. Council's website).
   
• Legislative Information Management System (LIMS) - 1989/1990 Council Period to date.  A search across the home page will search all Council periods and categories; you can filter search results by category, status, or Council period.
   
• District of Columbia Legislative History on Westlaw . Includes bill analysis and reports as well as votes.  There is also a Bill Tracking: Historical database and a Proposed and Enacted Legislation database with laws from the current session.
   
• District of Columbia Statutes and Legislation on Lexis.  Includes a Legislative History database and bill tracking database.
   
• District Council Channel - Includes public hearings, meetings, and roundtable discussions.
   
• Legislative Services Division of the D.C. Council - Maintains tapes of hearings from 1975 to present, as well as committee and public hearing files.  Call 202-724-8050.
