Many countries have adopted the United Nations Commission on International Trade (UNCITRAL) Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration and/or the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Mediation.  Also, most countries have enacted national laws that affect international commercial transactions, and the drafting of international commercial arbitration agreements.  The resources below will help you to find these laws. 

  • Foreign Law Guide
    Online guide to current codes and legislation in 178 foreign jurisdictions. For each country there is a brief introduction to the legal system and legal history, a list of codifications and other legal documents, followed by a subject listing of sources of law. The guide identifies available English translations and is updated frequently.
     
  • Getting the Deal Through
    Getting the Deal Through (GTDT) is accessible through Bloomberg Law. This source has surveys of commercial contract laws for a dozen or so countries. Contract law issues are also addressed in a number of their focused subject matters in other jurisdictions. To get to GTDT, sign into BloombergLaw, and in the search bar, start typing the name of the resource.
     
  • Investor-State Law Guide
    Contains a comprehensive disputes library, as well as a robust treaty and rules library.  To access ISLG content, all Mason users must first select "Login," and then click "Auto Login" on the home screen. Next, select "Continue with the NEW ISLG". Investor-State LawGuide (ISLG) is a comprehensive research database for international investment treaty law materials. The ISLG site also features advanced research tools, with reports powered by industry-leading legal analytics, document comparison tools, and more.
